Several years ago, we went to Jim's Place for Valentines Day. Although our food was tasty, we had a terrible experience. The main problem was the manager's truly offensive response. A large, loud, rowdy family (really?? on Valentine's Day??) was seated next to us, backing their chairs into us, passing food & crying babies around & never taking them out as they continued to cry, blocking access to our table with baby strollers, etc. We asked to be moved to another table but were told there was no where to move us (understandable since it was Valentine's Day). So, we also asked that the group be reminded to keep it down. Didn't happen. A few days later I called to let the manager know we had enjoyed the food (wanted to give credit where due) but were very disappointed in the experience, especially after having spent a lot on a Valentine's Day meal (we usually never go out on Valentine's Day for that reason). Instead of apologizing or trying to convince us to give Jim's Place another chance, he was rude & indignant, letting us know he takes his 3 month old to fancy restaurants all the time & that if she cries, too bad for other diners. (What??) I was floored & truly surprised that an old line Memphis restaurant would treat customers this way. Maybe he was having a bad day, who knows? Earlier today my husband suggested we give Jim's Place another chance, which prompted my writing of this review. Perhaps this manager is gone & diners can enjoy both food & atmosphere. Although this is the first time I've written about our experience, I've recounted our Valentine's Day meal to family & friends & I will continue to warn folks who think they are headed for a nice, often celebratory meal, at Jim's Place. Best of luck if you decide to try this place.

I took my mother there last night and we were very disappointed with the changes. The chopped steak has been removed from the menu. And Greek dishes you once had are non-existent or the recipes have been modified. At age 84 my mother has been a patron for years. She was very disappointed to not be able to get the hamburger steak. She resolved herself to the gumbo soup and salad. The gumbo was inedible and had a taste of nutmeg or cinnamon. At another table a lady ordered the Greek moussaka and sent it back. I overheard her say there was too much nutmeg or seasoning in it. Another change that will hurt this landmark is they no longer serve lunch. I think the merger with Grisanti was a big mistake or changes in your kind standing recipes are killing your business. I hope you can stay in business. We won't be back unfortunately. Moving from the Summer location was not an improvement because oak court crime is much worse than any summer avenue crime.
